Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Mix together first 5 ingredients along with 2 tablespoons of salt and a dash of pepper
  2. Cut core out of cabbage at a 3 inch depth
  3. Put cabbage in a large pot of boiling water over high heat
  4. With cooking tongs, remove about 20 leaves as they wilt
  5. Let leaves stand until cool enough to handle
  6. Carefully cut out coarsest part of ribs in each leaf
  7. Cool remaining cabbage and cut coarsely or chop
  8. Put half of chopped cabbage back into pot
  9. Put a spoonful of meat mixture into each cabbage leaf; roll up, tucking ends under
  10. Place on top of cabbage in pot or sauce pan
  11. Top with remaining cabbage, sauerkraut, tomatoes, and butter
  12. Season with salt and pepper to taste
  13. Add boiling water, bring to a boil
  14. Cover and simmer 45 minutes
