Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Add baking powder to flour and mix well. Then add shortening and blend well. Flour will be beady, like small peas. Mix buttermilk into flour and knead until texture is slightly tacky. Add additional small amount of flour to press flour into about a half inch dough. Rolling pen is helpful here. Take a cutter and cut biscuits the size you want. Place on baking pan close together, sides touching. Preheat oven and bake in 500 degree oven for about 12 minutes. Check after about 10 minutes to insure that biscuits are browned properly. Oven temperatures differ, so check. Some think sifting the flour helps. Chill butter sticks and cut slices ahead of time so that when biscuits come out, you can pop the butter slices into the biscuits.White Lily has a biscuit flour. It is the only type I use. Good to remember that cooking is as much art as science, so you will get a feel for what is right as you practice this recipe. Good luck. Actually, my husband developed this version and he has developed this over years of trying.
