Boiled Fruit Cake

Ingredients:

  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 4 cups flour ; sifted
  • 1 tsp cloves ; ground
  • 1 tbsp baking soda
  • 1 cup applesauce
  • 1 cup walnuts

Directions:

  1. Place raisins and boiling water in saucepan and boil 5 minutes.
  2. Add sugar and shortening.
  3. Cool.
  4. Mix; nutmeg, cloves, baking soda and applesauce (add alternately with dry ingredients.)
  5. Beat until well blended.
  6. Add walnuts and candied fruit.
  7. Bake in 2 loaf pans 45 minutes at 350°F.
  8. Cool 20 minutes before removing from pans.
  9. Store in aluminum foil.
