Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/8 tsp slt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2-1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda

Directions:

  1. Beat butter, confectioners' sugar, granulated sugar and salt in bowl until well blended.
  2. Add egg and vanilla then beat until light and fluffy.
  3. Stir sifted flour, soda and cream of tartar into creamed mixture then chill two hours.
  4. Shape into 1 balls then place two inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  5. Press to flatten with glass buttered on bottom and dipped in 1/4 cup granulated sugar.
  6. Rebutter if necessary and dip in sugar each time.
  7. Bake in a preheated 350 oven 12 minutes.
  8. When cookies are cool melt chocolate chips in small saucepan over lowest heat possible and stir.
  9. When chips begin to melt remove from heat and stir well.
  10. Return to heat for a few seconds at a time stirring until smooth then pile icing on cookies.
