Bears Old Fashioned Applesauce Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup. shortening
  • 2 cup. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cup. apple sauce
  • 2 1/2 cup. flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. all-spice
  • 1 cup. chopped raisins (if desired i like to use craisons dried cranberrys)
  • 1/2 cup. nuts
  • 2 tsp. soda
  • 1/2 cup. boiling water

Directions:

  1. Cream shortening and add sugar gradually.
  2. Add beaten egg and apple sauce.
  3. Sift flour before measuring. Use a little of the same flour to sift over fruit and nuts. Sift remaining flour with salt and spices.
  4. Dissolve soda in boiling water. Then add flour mixture alternately with the water to the creamed mixture.
  5. Add the floured raisins and nuts.
  6. Pour into cake tins or bake in mold, greased and floured.
  7. Bake for one hour in moderate heat over 350 degrees.
