Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Disslove yeast in warm water
  2. Add egg, milk, butter, sugar, lemon peel, salt and 3/4 cup flour
  3. Beat till smooth
  4. Stir in enough remaining flour to make a soft ( sticky dough )
  5. Turn onto floured surface
  6. With floured hands knead smooth and elastic about 6 to 8 minutes
  7. Press into a greased 8 inch square pan, building up edges slightly
  8. For topping:
  9. Combine cream cheese and sugar
  10. Gently spread over dough
  11. Arrange on apple slices, brush with butter
  12. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled
  13. Bake in a 350F oven 30 to 40 minutes or top is golden and apples tender
  14. Note: may also use peaches, plums or apricots instead of apples
  15. Cool on rack
  16. Dust with powdered sugar
  17. Refrigerate leftovers
