Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp mccormick pure vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 3/4 cups sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp mccormick anise seed
  • optional...1/2 cup finely chopped pecans

Directions:

  1. . Beat butter and sugar in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; mix well. Add baking powder and salt to sifted flour; sift again. Gradually add dry ingredients and anise seed to butter mixture, beating well after each addition.
  2. 2. Shape dough into log, about 1 1/2 inches in diameter and 12 inches long. Wrap in wax paper. Refrigerate at least 2 hours.
  3. 3. Preheat oven to 400°F. Cut log into thin slices and place 1 inch apart on greased baking sheets.
  4. 4. Bake 8 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheets 1 minute. Remove to wire racks; cool completely.

  6. Frost with a powdered sugar/water frosting with anise oil added for extra flavor.
