York peppermint brownies

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup butter or 1/4 cup margarine
  • 3/4 cup applesauce
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup hershey's cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 (12 1/2 oz) package york bites chocolate-covered mint candies

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350° F.
  2. Grease 13x9x2-inch baking pan.
  3. Place butter in large microwave-safe bowl.
  4. Microwave at HIGH (100%) 1-1/2 to 2 minutes or until melted.
  5. Stir in sugar and vanilla.
  6. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well with spoon after each addition.
  7. Add cocoa; beat until well blended.
  8. Add flour, baking powder and salt; beat well.
  9. Pour batter into prepared pan.
  10. Bake 25 minutes; remove pan from oven.
  11. Cover top of brownies with YORK Bites, spacing evenly.
  12. Place back in oven.
  13. Continue baking for 5 to 10 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan.
  14. Cool completely in pan on wire rack.
  15. Cut into bars.
