Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 3/4 cup finely chopped nuts

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350*.
  2. Cream sugar, shortening, butter, vanilla and egg yolk.
  3. Stir in flour and salt until dough holds together.
  4. Shape into 1 inch balls.
  5. Beat egg white slightly.
  6. Dip each cookie ball in the egg white; roll in the nuts.
  7. Place 1 inch apart on cookie sheet.
  8. Press thumb deeply in center of each.
  9. Bake until light brown, about 8-10 minutes.
  10. Remove from cookie sheet, cool.
  11. Fill thumbprints with jelly.
