Texas Style Chicken and Dumplings

Ingredients:

  • 1 (10 1/2 oz) can chicken broth
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1/4 tsp celery salt
  • 1/4 tsp sage
  • 1/4 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/8 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 10 1/2 oz chicken broth

Directions:

  1. Stew chicken in a large pot, barely covered with water and chicken broth.
  2. Add seasonings.
  3. Make dumplings while chicken is cooking.
  4. Combine all ingredients, adding enough flour to make a soft dough.
  5. Roll out on floured board, cut dough in strips about 1X2 inches.
  6. Remove chicken from from broth.
  7. Combine ingredients for gravy together in a saucepan.
  8. Heat until thickened and add to chicken liquid.
  9. Drop in dumplings while boiling and cook covered 10 to 15 minutes.
  10. Add chicken and serve with cranberry sauce.
