Ingredients:

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 5 tbsp shortening
  • 1 cup buttermilk

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, stir rogether dry ingredients.
  3. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles peas.
  4. Add buttermilk and stir.
  5. Turn out dough onto floured surface and knead slightly.
  6. Spread out dough to approximately 1 inch thick.
  7. Using a 6.5 cm diameter cookie cutter or lightly floured glass, cut out biscuits and place on ungreased cookie sheet so that the biscuits touch as they are baking.
  8. Bake 15-20 minutes or until light brown.
