Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2-1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla

Directions:

  1. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder, and baking soda. Cut in butter and shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal. In a bowl, beat eggs. Add sugar, vanilla and almond extract and continue beating until light and fluffy.
  2. Add shortening-flour mixture, beating until well mixed. Cover with a clean plastic wrap and refrigerate for 2-3 hours.
  3. Shape dough into 1-inch balls and arrange on ungreased baking sheet. Flatten each cookie with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
  4. Bake at 375F for 10-11 minutes.
