Spicy Lentil Soup

  1. Saute onions in olive oil until soft.
  2. Add garlic, celery and carrots and cook 15 minutes.
  3. Add seasonings and saute briefly.
  4. Add broth, bay leaves, sugar, ketchup, tomatoes, water, lentils and sherry.
  5. Simmer two hours.
  6. Remove bay leaves before serving.
