Ingredients:

  • 1 cup firmly packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine, softened
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 tsp lemon extract
  • 1/2 tsp pure anise extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 tsp ground cloves
  • 2 3/4 cups flour
  • confectioners' sugar

Directions:

  1. Beat brown sugar and butter with electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in eggs and extracts.
  3. Add remaining ingredients, except confectioners sugar, to flour and sift. Gradually add to butter mixture, mixing well, Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours.
  4. Peheat oven to 375°F Shape teaspoonfuls of dough into ovals and place 1-inch apart on ungreased baking sheets.
  5. Bake 10 minutes. Cool on baking sheets 1 minute. Remove to wire racks; sprinkle confectioners sugar over warm cookies.
  6. When cookies are cool, store in airtight containers.
