Ingredients:

  • 2 cup. sugar
  • 1 cup. butter
  • 2 squares bitter chocolate
  • 1 1/3 cup. sweet milk
  • 2 tsps. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 2 cup. flour

Directions:

  1. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Sift dry ingredients together three times.
  3. Add milk and flour alternately to other mixture.
  4. Beat eggs until lemon colored and stir into batter.
  5. Melt chocolate in double boiler with vanilla and add to mixture, bake in layers in moderate oven.

  7. Note: I would bake at 350 degrees in 8 or 9 pans.

  9. Toasted Pecan Filling:
  10. Toast 1 cup finely chopped pecans in 4 Tablespoons butter, stirring constantly.
  11. Remove from fire and add 6 Tablespoons top cream or canned milk-add 3 cups confectioners sugar (1 box).

  13. Fudge Icing:
  14. Mix 2 cups sugar, 1 Tablespoon white corn syrup, 5 Tablespoons cocoa, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1 cup milk, let stand 15 minutes.
  15. Cook over slow fire until forms soft ball when dropped in cold water.
  16. Add 1 Tablespoon butter, vanilla beat until smooth.

  19. What Is Sweet Milk?
  20. Sweet milk is whole milk, nothing more, nothing less. This term has carried over from before when dairy products werent so readily available to the consumer. It was used to help people differentiate regular milk and buttermilk, as it has a sweeter taste to it than buttermilk.
