Orange Sauced Butter Cake

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3 tbsp orange juice

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven 325°.
  2. Grease and flour a 12-cup bundt pan or 10-inch tube pan.
  3. Stir together dry ingredients; set aside.
  4. Cream butter and sugar till light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, till well combined; add vanilla.
  5. Alternately work in dry ingredients and buttermilk until well mixed.
  6. Pour into prepared pan.
  7. Bake at 325° for 55-70 minutes.
  8. Check for doneness with toothpick.
  9. • While cake bakes, make sauce: Combine all ingredients in small sauce pan; bring to simmer over medium heat for 2 minutes, till sugar is dissolved. Keep warm.
  10. When cake comes from oven, immediately poke all over with a fork, fairly deeply.
  11. Spoon sauce slowly over cake till pan is empty.
  12. Let cake cool 30 minutes, then remove from pan.
  13. Finish cooling.
