Old-Fashioned Caramel Apples (From About 1964)

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Combine sugars, syrup and milk in heavy saucepan.
  2. Cook to 230º-234º, stirring constantly, over medium heat.
  3. Remove from heat and add butter and vanilla.
  4. Dip skewered apples, one at a time, twirling to coat smoothly.
  5. Immerse immediately into a bowl of ice water, lift out, let water drain off, place on waxed paper to set.
  6. Reheat caramel over hot water if needed while dipping.
