Mrs. Faye's Chocolate Pie

Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Combine sugar, flour, salt and cocoa with milk.
  2. Cook over medium low heat until thickened.
  3. Beat egg yolks and add extremely slow to cocoa mixture, Stirring quickly while adding so the yolks don't cook separately.
  4. Continue to cook over low medium low heat to thicken a bit more. (About 15 to 20 minutes).
  5. Remove from heat and add vanilla.
  6. Drop in butter, but do so in dots or make sure butter is softened.
  7. Stir well.
  8. Pour into baked and cooled pie crust.
  9. Whip egg whites with cream of tartar. Add sugar a little at a time and whip until stiff peaks form.
  10. Spread on pie, making sure to seal the edges of the meringue to the pie crust.
  11. Bake at 350 for about 15 minutes, until meringue is lightly browned.
