Molasses Crinkles

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 4 tbsp molasses
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp clove
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ginger
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375.
  2. Cream shortening.
  3. Add sugar gradually, and cream thoroughly.
  4. Blend in beaten egg and molasses.
  5. Mix together flour, soda, cloves, cinnamon and ginger to cream mixture. Mix well.
  6. Chill in refrigerator for 1 hour or more.
  7. Shape into balls, and dip top in sugar.
  8. Place unsugared side down on a greased baking sheet.
  9. Sprinkle each cookie with 2-3 drops of ice water.
  10. Bake 12-15 minutes.
  11. Place on cooling rack.
