Hot Cross Buns - Bread Machine

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg , plus
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 6 tbsp sugar
  • 3/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground cloves
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • 1/2 cup raisins or 1/2 cup candied fruit
  • 1/2 cup icing sugar
  • 1 tbsp milk
  • 1/2 tsp lemon juice

Directions:

  1. Put all ingredients except fruit into bread machine.
  2. Set for dough.
  3. Add fruit at signal.
  4. Lightly oil 9x13 pan.
  5. When dough is ready, remove and punch down.
  6. Cut into 18-24 pieces.
  7. Roll each into a ball.
  8. Place balls 1/2 apart in pan.
  9. Cover and rise in warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).
  10. Cut cross into top with sharp knife.
  11. Bake 12-15 minutes 375.
  12. Make glaze adding sugar or milk to make consistency to drizzle but not run.
  13. Let rolls cool slightly and drizzle icing in cuts.
