  • 4- 6 cups depending how much you want to make of white flour.lard or manteca same thing .about 1 serving spoon size ,about 2 tsp of baking powder. and about 8 oz of hot water

Directions:

  1. Take a large mixing bowl add the 4-6 cups of white flour , then 1 teaspoon of salt 2 teaspoons of baking powder. Then mix. Then add a serving spoon of lard or from your 4 fingers to your palm lard (ways of old of yesteryears technique used by many Spanish & Mexican people, when measuring cups weren't around.Blend the lard & flour together real fine until no lard is visible. Add water little by little blend until you form a dough or what we call masa,(DON T dump it all at once) what a mess.. Take the dough & knead. Then take off little balls about the size of golf balls & form a flat small form by placing the ball in your palms and turning the ball around & around using your two middle fingers & palms the lay flat & pile each one in order and put aside for rolling . Sprinkle a little flour & use a wooden rolling pin sprinkled with flour and lay one of the flatten forms onto the rolling area, it is called a bala. Then roll half way from the center then turn then roll the other side in the same technique doing this around & around until you have made a flat round tortilla .In the process you have to heat up a cast iron griddle or a comile a flat cast iron tortilla toaster. Brown quickly on both sides, place in a tortilla bowl w/lid or tin foil fold in half large sheet and finishing making batch. Until done.
