Grandma Clouse's Cherry Pudding

Ingredients:

  • 4 tbsp butter (originally written 'lump of , size of an egg')
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups flour (enough to make a stiff dough)
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 cups hot water

Directions:

  1. Make a stiff dough from 1 cup sugar, 4 T softened butter, milk, baking powder and flour. Add flour in gradually until the dough is stiff but by no means dry.
  2. Smear dough into a buttered 9X13 pan.
  3. Make sauce of cherries, remaining cup of sugar, 2 T butter and hot water.
  4. Pour cherry sauce over patter and bake at 350 degrees F until dough is baked through. If serving hot pass cream or ice cream to accompany.
  5. May substitute blackberries or raspberries if desired.
