Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablesps. sugar
  • 1/4 cup + 2 tablesps. cornstarch
  • 1 and 1/4 cups milk
  • 3 tablesps. grand marnier or other orange-flavored liqueur
  • 1 and 1/2 tablesps. butter; melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • for the cream fraiche sauce
  • 1/3 cup commercial sour cream
  • 1 tablesp. + 2 teasps. cream cheese; softened1/3 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teasp. amaretto liqueur

Directions:

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Combine first three ingredients in a medium saucepan. Stir in milk, liqueur & butter with a wire whisk. Cook over medium-low heat until thickened; stirring constantly. Remove from heat. In a small bowl, add some of the hot mixture to the egg-yolks, stirring constantly. Add yolk mixture to hot mixture, stirring constantly; remove from heat & allow to cool. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form; gradually add 1/2 cup sugar until stiff peaks form. Fold into cooled custard. Pour mixture into 8 ( 10 ounce ) custard cups. Set cups into a large cake or casserole pan & pour 1 to 1 and 1/2 inches of hot water into pan. Place this into oven & bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour & 20 minutes. Serve immediately with creme fraiche sauce.

  3. Combine all ingredients in container of a blender & blend until thickened. Chill; serve over custard.
