Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Dissolve yeast in warm water and let stand 5 minutes.
  2. Combine shortening, milk, sugar, salt and spices in large mixing bowl and stir until shortening melts.
  3. Cool to 105 degrees.
  4. Add yam, egg and yeast mixture mixing well.
  5. Gradually stir in flour to make a soft dough.
  6. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead until smooth and elastic.
  7. Place in a greased bowl turning to grease top.
  8. Cover and let rise in warm place free from drafts 1 hour or until double.
  9. Punch dough down.
  10. Roll out to 3/4 inch thick on lightly floured surface.
  11. Cut with a 2 inch biscuit cutter and place in a greased cookie sheet.
  12. Brush with melted butter then cover and let rise in warm place free from drafts 30 minutes or until doubled in bulk.
  13. Bake at 375 for 25 minutes.
