Gamma Betty's Apple Fritters

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup flour , sifted
  • confectioners' sugar , for dusting

Directions:

  1. Beat egg yolk with water, oil and salt.
  2. Add flour and beat until smooth.
  3. Let stand at room temperature for about an hour.
  4. Preheat oil in deep-fryer to 375°F.
  5. Peel and core apples, then cut into 1/4-inch rings. Add into batter.
  6. Beat egg white until stiff; fold into batter.
  7. Deep-fry, turning once, until golden brown.
  8. Drain on paper bags or paper towel.
  9. Dust with confectioners sugar before serving.
