Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup plus 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tsp baking powdwer
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 tsp cream of tarter

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Butter a 9 inch, 2 inch tall springform pan or similar pan.
  3. Combime cheeries, 1 Tbs sugar and water and heat and cook over medium heat about 10 minutes or until tender.
  4. Remove from heat to cool.
  5. Combine dry ingredients and beat in 3/4 cup sugar and butter until light and fluffy.
  6. Add yolks one at a time and add vanilla.
  7. Beat whitesa stiff with cream of tarter.
  8. Gently fold into batter.
  9. Pour batter in pan and top with half the cherry mixture and half of their juice.
  10. Reserve remainders to serve with cake
  11. Sprinkle top of cherries with remaining 1 Tbs sugar.
  12. Bake golden and done, about 50 minutes.
  13. Remove from oven and run a small knife around edges of pan.
  14. Cool ob rack before loosening.
  15. Served with the reserved cherriesand their juice
