  1. Preheat oven to 350° F. and butter a 13-by-9 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl whisk together butter, sugar, and vanilla. Add eggs 1 at a time, whisking well after each addition. Stir in coffee granules or espresso powder. Sift flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and cinnamon into mixture and stir just until combined. Stir in chocolate chips and spread batter evenly in pan. Sprinkle batter with walnuts and bake in middle of oven 40 to 45 minutes, or until batter begins to pull away from sides of pan. Cool brownies completely in pan on a rack and cover pan tightly with foil. Let brownies stand at least 6 hours and up to 1 day.
  3. Cut brownies into 24 squares.
