Ingredients:

  • 1 cup (4 oz) finely shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp plus 1-1/2 tsp sugar
  • 1 package (1/4 oz) active dry yeast
  • 1-1/2 tsp salt
  • 1-1/2 tsp italian seasoning
  • 1-1/2 cups 2% milk
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp water

Directions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine 3 cups flour, cheese, sugar, yeast, salt and Italian seasoning. In a small saucepan, heat milk and butter to 120°-130°. Add to dry ingredients; beat until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a stiff dough.
  2. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease the top. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.
  3. Punch dough down. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide into thirds. Roll each portion into a 12-in. circle; cut each circle into 12 wedges. Roll up wedges from the wide end and place point side down 2 in. apart on greased baking sheets.
  4. Curve ends to form a crescent shape. Cover and let rise for 45 minutes. Beat egg yolk and water; brush over crescents.
  5. Bake at 375° for 16-18 minutes or until golden brown. Remove from pans to wire racks. Yield: 3 dozen.
