Ingredients:

  • 6 -8 cups flour, divided
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 2 (4 1/2 tsp) envelopes dry yeast
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp finely crumbled saffron
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 eggs

Directions:

  1. Combine 1/4 cup flour,suger,yeast and salt. Bring 21/2 c water with the saffron in it to a boil. then let stand until lukewarm. Stir the water along with the oil into the flour mixture. At high speed beat for 3 minutes. Add eggs one at a time beating well after each addition.
  2. Stir in enough flour to make a soft dough (about 4C). Knead by hand until smooth. Place dough in a lightlty greased bowl. Let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
  3. Punch down Turn out onto lightly floured board. Divide into 3 equal parts, divide each again into 3 parts. roll each into a one inch rope. Braid 3 ropes into a bread. Place on lighlty greased cookie sheet and cover with damp towel. Let rise 1 hour. Bake 350 45 minutes.
