Ingredients:

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1/2 lb. (2 cubes) real butter
  • 1- 12-oz can sego milk (evaportated milk)
  • 1 cup pecans or walnuts (optional)

Directions:

  1. Combine the ingredients in a heavy-bottomed pan.
  2. Add a candy thermometer
  3. Cook while stirring until the thermometer reaches 240*
  4. Add 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts(optional) and pour into a buttered 9 x 13 pan.
  5. Cool in refrigerator.
  6. Cut the caramels with a serrated knife.
  7. Wrap individual pieces in plastic and wrap and store in a plastic bat.
