Ingredients:

  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Directions:

  1. Sift dry ingredients. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles course meal.
  2. Add buttermilk to flour mixture, stirring until dry ingredients are moistened.
  3. Turn out onto lightly floured surface, knead lightly 3 to 5 times until smooth.
  4. Pat dough out to 1/2-inch thickness, cut with a 2-1/4-inch biscuit cutter.
  5. Place biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet.
  6. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Maked about 1-1/2 dozen
