Directions:

  1. Cream butter in large mixing bowl; gradually add brown sugar, beating until light and fluffy. Add egg, beating well.
  2. Combine 2 1/2 cups flour, soda, salt, and spices; add to creamed mixture alternately with applesauce, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Beat well after each addition.
  3. Dredge raisins and black walnuts in remaining 1/2 cup flour; fold into batter. Pour batter into a greased and floured 10 - inch tube pan. Bake at 350° for 1 hour and 15 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool in pan 15 minutes; remove from pan, and cool completely. Serve with Brandied Hard Sauce.
