Ingredients:

  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 package dry yeast
  • 5 tbsp warm water

Directions:

  1. Sift dry ingredients, then cut in shortening.
  2. Add buttermilk.
  3. Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to the mixture.
  4. Knead lightly.
  5. Roll out, cut with biscuit cutter and bake on greased cookie sheet at 450*F for 10 to 12 minutes.
  6. Dough may be stored in the refrigerator, pinching off as many as is needed each time, or may be cut then frozen.
