Ingredients:

  • 5 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • 2 1/4 tsp yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs

Directions:

  1. Combine 2 cups flour, yeast, sugar and salt in a large bowl.
  2. Stir well and add soft butter.
  3. Add hot tap water all at once.
  4. Beat with mixer at high speed for 1 minute. Stir in remaining flour with a wooden spoon.
  5. Turn out on floured board in a ball. Knead 5-10 minutes or until smooth and elastic.
  6. Cover with plastic wrap and a towel and let rest for 15-20 minutes.
  7. Punch down.
  8. Divide dough in half and shape each into a braid.
  9. Place in two greased 9 inch cake pans.
  10. Brush surface of dough with salad oil.
  11. Cover pans loosely with plastic wrap.
  12. Refrigerate 2-24 hours.
  13. When ready to bake, remove from fridge, uncover and let stand 10 minutes.
  14. Bake at 375°F for 30-35 minutes.
  15. Remove from pan and immediately brush with butter.
