Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Cook onions in water until tender.
  2. Drain and reserve liquid.
  3. Place onions in casserole dish.
  4. Set aside.
  5. Mix reserved liquid with milk and heat in saucepan.
  6. Keep warm.
  7. Melt butter in another saucepan and stir in flour with whisk.
  8. Cook over medium heat at least one minute, or until you have a white roux.
  9. Add the roux to the warm milk mixture, stirring with a whisk over medium heat until thickened.
  10. Remove from heat and stir in beaten egg yolk, salt and pepper.
  11. Pour this sauce over the onions, top with buttered bread crumbs and slivered almonds.
  12. Bake at 350 degrees F until heated through.
