Ingredients:

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup slivered almonds
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 3/4 tsp milk

Directions:

  1. Set oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Stir together flour, baking powder and salt; in a large bowl, beat butter until softened.
  3. Add sugar and beat until fluffy.
  4. Add egg and almond extract and beat well.
  5. Add flour mixture and beat until well mixed.
  6. Divide the dough into fourths; form each into a 12 roll.
  7. Place two rolls 4-5 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  8. Flatten each roll until 3 wide; repeat with remaining rolls.
  9. Brush the flattened rolls with milk and sprinkle with slivered almonds.
  10. Bake at 325* oven for 12-14 minutes when the edges are slightly brown. While cookies are warm, cut into 1 diagonal strips.
  11. Cool the cookies.
  12. Drizzle with Almond Icing.
