Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 package dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup water lukewarm
  • 21/2 cup flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped dates
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 3 egg whites stiffly beaten
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup sugar

Directions:

  1. Dough
  2. Melt and cool butter and milk. Mix yeast.in water. Sift flour, salt, and sugar. Stir egg yolks into milk mixture. Add this mix into sifted flour, mix. Add yeast mix, beat well and refrigerate overnight. Dough will be sticky.
  3. Filling
  4. Over heat, mix nuts, dates, sugar, cinnamon, and milk to a paste. Cool is mixture. Beat egg whites till stiff-gradually add sugar. Fold in the filling paste.
  5. Rollout 1/2 doughina 20 square on a well floured cloth. Spread 1/2 filling over dough and roll up like a jelly roll. Put into a greased angel food pan. Repeat with second half of filling and dough. Place ontot of first roll in pan. You will have two layers but the cake becomes one during baking
  6. Bake at 350 for 1 hour 5 min
  7. If desired sprinkle with powdered sugar glaze
