Ingredients:

  • 1 cup quick oats
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp margarine or 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 package yeast
  • 5 cups flour

Directions:

  1. Combine the first six ingredients.
  2. Let cool to lukewarm; stir in yeast.
  3. Wait 5 minutes to be sure mix bubbles; if not, buy new yeast.
  4. Once mix has bubbled, stir in the 5 cups flour.
  5. Knead 5-10 minutes, until satiny looking.
  6. Put in a greased bowl.
  7. Cover bowl very loosely with clean damp towel.
  8. Let rise till doubled.
  9. Punch down; let rise again.
  10. Shape into 2 loaves and place in greased loaf pans.
  11. Let rise til above pan.
  12. Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes or until bread thumps hollow.
