Ingredients:

  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 package yeast
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 6 cups flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg

Directions:

  1. Stir together the warm water, yeast and sugar, set aside.
  2. Sift the flour and salt together, set aside
  3. Cream the shortening and egg until fluffy
  4. Add the water mixture to the egg mixture and then add the flour mixture until combined
  5. Knead the dough until smooth and elastic, 3 to 5 minutes - either by hand or in a stand mixer with a kneading hook
  6. Put in an un-greased bowl, grease the top of the dough only, you can do this by spraying with Pam
  7. Cover with a damp cloth and put in the refrigerator
  8. Use when desired, by pinching off enough to form a ball about 1/2 the size of your fist - just make as many as you need at the time
  9. Allow to rise for about 2 hours
  10. Bake at 400 degrees for 1- to 15 minutes until golden
  11. **I think the dough will last about 5 days in the refrigerator...but we've never not used it that long!
