  1. Preheat oven to 350F.
  2. In a mixer, beat the sugar and butter until smooth.
  3. Add vanilla, baking soda, salt, and spices. Blend well.
  4. Blend in the currants, the oats, then the flour.
  5. Roll the batter in the palms of your hand into a tablespoon-sized ball and place on a parchment-lined cookie sheet.
  6. Bake for 12 minutes in batches.
