Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375. Lightly grease cookie sheets.
  2. Cream together brown sugar and shortening.
  3. Beat in egg.
  4. Sift together dry ingredients and gradually beat into to mixture. Beat until well blended.
  5. Stir in apples by hand. Stir in the nuts, if using them.
  6. Drop by tbsps on a greased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake at 375 degrees for about 10- 12 minutes or until just lightly brown at edges.
