  1. With an electric mixer, cream the butter and sugars. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  2. Sift together the flour and baking soda. Blend into the sugar mixture. Form dough into 2 disks, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 1 hour.
  3. Meanwhile, with a fork blend the almond paste and heavy cream until smooth.
  4. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Working with one disk at a time on a lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/8 inch thickness. With a 1 1/2 inch round cookie cutter cut out an even number of rounds. Place half of them on a lined baking sheet/ place 1/4 tsp of the almond paste mixture in the center of each. Brush rim with milk and carefully top each with another round. Seal edges.
  5. Top each cookie with 2 slices of almonds and bake 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are golden. Cool for 3 minutes on sheets, then transfer to racks. Dust with confectioners' sugar.
