Steak and Onion Pie

Ingredients:

  • 2 medium onions, sliced
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 lb round steak
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 dash ginger
  • 1 dash allspice
  • 3 medium potatoes, diced

Directions:

  1. Cook onions slowly in melted shortening until yellow. Remove onions and set aside.
  2. Slice meat into one inch cubes and toss in a mixture of flour and spices.
  3. Brown meat cutes in the hot melted shortening.
  4. Add boiling water.
  5. Cover skillet and cook over low heat approximately one hour.
  6. Add potatoes and cook 15 minutes more.
  7. Arrange onions over top of mixture.
  8. Pour into a greased 8-inch casserole dish.
  9. Fit pastry crust over top.
  10. Slit top with knife and seal edges of crust.
  11. Bake in 450 degree oven for 25 minutes.
