Orange Pound Cake

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 sticks butter
  • 2 2/3 cups white sugar
  • 1 tbsp orange zest
  • 2/3 cup shortening
  • 5 large eggs
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup orange juice
  • 1 tbsp orange zest

Directions:

  1. Mix first 7 ingredients in order.
  2. Sift together dry ingredients and add alternating with milk until both are incorporated.
  3. Grease and flour a 12-cup tube pan.
  4. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake at 300 degrees for 35 minutes and then at 325 degrees for 30 minutes.
  5. Cool cake in pan for 20 minutes.
  6. Glaze:
  7. In a small saucepan,combine ingredients and boil until syrup-like(about 5 minutes). Remove from heat and cool for 15 minutes.
  8. Pour half over cake while still in pan. Turn cake out and pour on the rest. Cool cake completely.
