Oat Bran Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp brown sugar
  • 4 tbsp shortening
  • 1 cup water or 1 cup milk
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup natural bran
  • 1 1/2 tsp yeast

Directions:

  1. Warm water/ milk to lukewarm temperature.
  2. Melt shortening.
  3. Warm mixer bowl with warm water.
  4. Dissolve yeast in a little water.
  5. Add water/milk and shortening.
  6. Add salt and sugar.
  7. Add flour and bran.
  8. Stir all ingredients for 30 sec.
  9. Mix on Speed 2 for 2 minutes or until elastic.
  10. Dough should be moist. If it looks dry add water as needed but not more than 1/4 cup.
  11. Place dough in greased bowl and cover.Allow dough to double in size (approx 1 hour).
  12. Punch down and form into a loaf, allow to rise for 30 minutes.
  13. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and grease large loaf pan.
  14. Bake for 40 minutes.
  15. I used a Kitchen Aid Mixer to mix this dough so if using a different mixer you may need to use different settings.
