New England Mashed Turnips

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb turnip
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp white pepper

Directions:

  1. Peel turnips with a peeler & cut them into 1/2-inch cubes.
  2. Fill a medium-size pot with water & bring to a boil.
  3. Add 1/2 teaspoon salt & turnip cubes & bring to a boil again.
  4. Turn the heat low,cover the pot and simmer for 20 minutes or until the turnips are soft.
  5. Drain the turnips into a colander in the sink.
  6. Put the turnips back into the pot & warm on low heat for a minute ito dry off moisture.
  7. Add butter,half-and-half & rest of the salt & pepper.
  8. Stir with a spoon while the butter is melting.
  9. Mash with a potato masher until soft & fluffy.
