Ingredients:

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 3/4-3 cup shortening
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • flour (enough so you can handle dough)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F degrees.
  2. Beat egg and sugar together.
  3. Add shortening and beat.
  4. In another bowl, pour hot water over baking soda.
  5. Add molasses and vanilla to hot water mixture.
  6. Add wet to dry mixture.
  7. Drop by teaspoonsful on greased baking sheet.
  8. Bake 12-15 minutes.
