Ingredients:

Directions:

  1. Soak kern overnight; drain well.
  2. Add water and salt; simmer until tender, about 8 hours.
  3. Add onion, garlic, carrot and pepper after two hours of cooking.
  4. Add soup stock from time to time as the water evaporates.
  5. Add any remaining stock at the end of cooking.
