Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla or 2 tsp almond extract
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp water (optional)
  • 36 whole almonds (optional)

Directions:

  1. Melt butter over low heat, without stirring, until brown about 30 minutes.
  2. Place butter in pan over a bowl of cold water until firm.
  3. About 90 minutes.
  4. Remove butter to mixing bowl, add sugar, baking powder, vanilla (or almond) and cardomom, and blend thoroughly.
  5. Slowly add flour.
  6. Batter will be very stiff.
  7. If you must, add a few drops of water to enable mixing.
  8. Roll into 1 balls (mixture is crumbly but molds easily).
  9. Top with whole almonds, if desired.
  10. Bake 350 degrees for 12 minutes.
  11. Cool completely before serving.
