Directions:

  1. Combine butter and sugar in a medium mixing bowl; stir well. Add egg; stir until smooth. Combine flour, baking powder, and salt; add to sugar mixture. Fold in dates and pecans.
  2. Spoon batter into a greased and floured 9-inch square baking pan. Bake at 325° for 30 minutes. Cool slightly in pan; cut into 2- x 1-inch bars. Remove to wire racks to cool completely.
